In my opinion no piece better epitomizes the space race era stylistically more than what has become known as “Dot Dial” by Girard Perregaux. It’s near cigar smoke colored base showcases distinct graduating hand-painted black over white circles which resembles the sun rising over the moon. This is a truly extraordinary and versatile piece which can be worn even at black-tie events, which will certainly draw attention from others as it is so bold it can be noticed across the room.
The hand-painted hour indicators increase in size ever so slightly when measuring one next to each other but in a beautiful near doubling circumference from 1 to 12 o’clock position. The design is simple but exotic, and GP maintained a minimalist design with the 34.5 mm stainless steel case , the non-presence of a second hand, and unsigned crown. The white hands are notable in that they were used on this production run known as the FG series in 1970 which was the last.
The Girard Perregaux caliber 12.3 manual wind movement was fully serviced prior to sale. The case is an unpolished original condition and the case back featured a radial matte brushed finish. The watches shipped on a brand-new 18mm Fluco black Italian suede blackstrap, which compliments and in no way detracts from the dial.
It has become increasingly more difficult to source original examples like this and we are proud to offer it for sale. The 9034 reference comes in several different dial variations, although I believe none as bold yet simple as the “Dot Dial”.
